Heroines of Jericho
The textured embroidery and chenille-style finish give the patch a traditional, ceremonial look, reflecting heritage, dignity, and continuity. The overall design conveys wisdom, domestic industry, patience, and moral fortitude—values long associated with the Order.
Brief History
The Heroines of Jericho is a historic women’s auxiliary of Prince Hall Affiliated Masonry, founded in the mid-19th century. The Order traces its origins to 1854, established to provide women—particularly wives, daughters, widows, and female relatives of Prince Hall Masons—a formal body for fellowship, charity, moral instruction, and community service.
The name “Jericho” draws from the biblical city whose walls fell through faith, unity, and perseverance, symbolizing the power of collective purpose. Over generations, the Heroines of Jericho have played a vital role in charitable works, education, mutual aid, and the preservation of African-American Masonic traditions.
