Black Watch
The Black Watch originated in 18th-century Scotland as an elite military regiment formed to protect the Highlands. Known for their discipline, vigilance, and unwavering courage, they were tasked with watching over the land, preventing conflict, and standing as the first line of defense for their people. Their name symbolized strength, loyalty, and fearless guardianship.
Amityville Memorial High School honors this legacy by naming its starting defense “Black Watch.” Just like the historic Scottish protectors, the unit represents toughness, unity, and the responsibility of defending their territory. The name reflects a tradition of pride and excellence—recognizing the defense as the steadfast guardians of the field, holding the line with discipline and power every snap (5 inches).
